BDBMC Announces Expansion Marine BusinessRiver Forest Yachting Center to expand Stuart facility
The Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) is pleased to announce the upcoming expansion of River Forest Yachting Center. In addition to and expansion of their facility, the company plans to add new employees.
Built in 2005, River Forest Yachting Center is located on a nine-acre complex connected to the St. Lucie Canal. The facility currently has a 45,000 square foot, climate-controlled storage building, a 6,000 square foot indoor storage building, in-water storage on a freshwater basin, and out-of-water storage lots. The company will replace a smaller, older building that houses a fabrication and machine shop with a 5,000 square foot building that is more modern. Additionally, River Forest plans to improve part of the existing service area, including a large covered service area for larger boats. Construction is anticipated to begin within 30 days, and be complete by the end of summer 2009. This expansion will be a local stimulus and enable River Forest to add new, skilled positions.
“The Business Development Board took this project under its wing, and has shepherded it from the day we started,” said John Smith, general manager of River Forest's Stuart location. “Working with the county has been a refreshing experience, too. We are very happy to reinvest in our Martin County facility, and intend to stay here for a very long time.”
Businesses in the marine sector are some of the longest standing economic drivers in Martin County, and are targeted by the BDBMC for retention, expansion and recruitment efforts.
“Helping local companies in key industries grow is top priority for the BDBMC,” said Ron Bunch, executive director of the Business Development Board of Martin County. “By working with our partners, such as the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast, we want to assist and recruit companies within that sector that will add to the depth and breadth of businesses located here.”
