NMRA Awards Joe Charles with 2009 Mel Barr Award
During the recent International Boatbuilders Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) Industry Breakfast, the National Marine Representatives Association (NMRA) honored Joe Charles, president of Charles Industries and owner of River Forest Yachting Centers, with the Mel Barr Award. NMRA president Jeff Gueterman and Matt Gruhn, Boating Industry magazine editor-in-chief, made the presentation.
Created in the memory of Mel Barr, an independent marine rep, one of the founders of NMRA and its first president, this award recognizes an individual who has contributed to the improvement of the industry. Through his business ventures and charity work, Joe Charles is dedicated to making the world a better place.
Deeply involved in the marine industry, Charles serves on the Foundation Board of the American Boat and Yacht Council. He has given his time and an accessible sailboat to the inspirational Shake-A-Leg Miami Watersports Community Center, as well as raised funds for Broward Community College's Marine Technology Center of Excellence.
Founded in 1960, NMRA is a national organization serving independent marine representatives and manufacturers who sell through representatives. This professional association functions as an industry voice, promoting networking and the benefits of utilizing reps for sales.
